The NJYHL regular season ended this past weekend for our PeeWees and Bantams.
Our BANTAM A team finished the season with a very respectable 12-7-3 record and was in the playoff race through the final weekend.  We placed this team of almost all first years aggressively at the ‘A’ level and they stepped up and delivered.  Well done boys!
Our PEE WEE B team finished the season 14-5-1 and secured a berth in the NJYHL PLAYOFFS on the weekend of February 25-27!  Good luck boys!
Our PEE WEE A team finished the season in FIRST PLACE with an 11-1-4 record.  By finishing first the team proceeds to the ATLANTIC DISTRICT 12U PLAYOFFS on the weekend of March 18-20.   The winner will represent the Atlantic District (NJ, PA, and DE) in the USA Hockey National Championship in San Jose in April.  Good luck boys!
All the boys should be congratulated for their hard work and commitment, and a big ‘thank you’ to the coaches of these teams!

Penguins Girls Hockey 2011/12
posted 01/27/2011

It is hard to believe that the new Jersey Penguins Hockey Club is less than a year old.  We have accomplished so much in that time.

One of our greatest achievements is establishing our Girls Hockey program.  Begun only in the Summer of 2010, we now have over 35 girls at all skill levels.

Girls Hockey has strongest support of our organization at all levels. At the Penguins girls are core to our Club.

We are committed to growing and formalizing this program.

For the upcoming 2011/12 season we will have:

COMPETITIVE TEAMS.  For girls who have experience in the sport we will offer a Major (age 12-16) and a Minor (age 8-12) team.  Our teams span multiple age levels to recognize that the fast growth of Girls Hockey means many girls have developed their skill levels at different rates.  We are committed to keeping girls of comparable skill levels together to more easily foster their development and enhance their enjoyment of the sport.

Each team will have two practices per week, play approximately 20 games (excluding tournaments), and attend at least two tournaments.

Tryouts will be the week of April 11.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM.  For girls who are experienced skaters and want to learn the sport of hockey we offer our Developmental Program.  This program will be comprised of skills and drills, station training, and practices to learn the game.

The girls will be on the ice twice a week with one day of station training and one dedicated practice.  There will be the opportunity for 3x3 games and later in the season some full ice games and a tournament.

We will have two evaluation skates, including one the week of April 11.

Last year this program SOLD OUT.

To enroll in this program your daughter must be a proficient skater.

Oh, Canada.....
posted 12/06/2010

This weekend the Jersy Penguins made a Club hockey trip to the Canadian Cup in Montreal.

We competed at the Bantam, PeeWee, Squirt, and Mite levels against teams from Ontario and Quebec.

A HUGE congratulations to our Squirt A team who brought home the GOLD in a thrilling 3-2 championship game over the Stormont Selects.  The police escort of the team bus back into town was well deserved!

Likewise congratulations to our PeeWee B team for making to the finals and winning the SILVER in a championship game against North York that went into overtime and a seven player shootout.

A great time was had by all the teams facing competition we never see in the States.

As an added bonus our Penguins were able to hang out with the NHL San Jose Sharks who were staying in the same hotel downtown as all our teams.

Mites on Ice!
posted 10/12/2010

The Jersey Penguins Mite Major team took over the Prudential Center on Monday during the game between the NJ Devils and (appropriately) the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After being greeted by the Devils’ representative, the Penguin Mites proceeded to the pre-game fair where street hockey was underway. The team joined in the action. Our Penguin Mites tore up all the challengers. During the street hockey game, the Devils’ mascots appeared for photo opportunities. Garrett Hall checked the Little Devil while Noah Caputo ran circles around him.

Next, the team went to the arena to watch the Devils and Penguins practice.  Soon, they were called to the locker room to suit up. The parents enjoyed watching the first period while the kids were getting ready. Thanks to the coaches for tying all those skates!  At the end of the first period, the Penguin Mites took the ice. Everybody was cheering!  The pressure was intense!  The skating awesome!  The kids played to an exciting tie.

Great Job Penguins Mites!

Silver Sticks News !!!
by posted 10/04/2010

Congratulations to our Squirt Black team who had an outstanding showing at the Regional Silver Sticks Final at Ice Works.

The Squirt Blacks dominated play in early rounds, going 5-0 in their bracket and through the semi-finals.

In the Finals they met the only other undefeated team, the Virginia Wild.  In the definition of an exciting game the Penguins and Wild played to a 3-3 tie in regulation.....and to a tie in regulation overtime......and to a tie in the regulation shootout.  To determine the champion the game proceeded to a sudden death shootout during which the Wild prevailed.

Congratulations on a great tournament boys and on bringing home the first Penguins banner of the season!
